Road America Special Porsche Events
Two recent events at Road America featured Porsche and Concours Motors participated in both. The Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman was held July 21 & 22. This is the annual gathering of vintage and historic racecars. This year Porsche was the featured marque and the Milwaukee Region of the PCA organized the Celebrate Porsche event.
Porsche Park was overflowing with everything from earliest models to the newest GT3. Notable Porsches were a Carrera GT and the GT3RS. Parked in the main display tent were a number of racecars including a 1971 908/3, 1969 908 LH, 1973 911 RSR and the 1976 935-001, the first 935 built by the factory.
Saturday and Sunday also featured talks by veteran drivers Brian Redman and Peter Kitchak describing their experiences racing Porsches at tracks around the world.
August 10-12 was the American LeMans Series visit to Road America for the Generac 500 race. Because a number of Porsche teams compete in the ALMS, Porsche provides a display at many ALMS races called Porsche Platz (Place). It was located at Porsche Park. Partner sponsors Michelin and Mobil 1 provided staff members for question and answer sessions.
Concours Motors provided new Porsche models on display for both weekends. I attended both events and met many people from around the country that share an enjoyment of Porsche and road racing at Road America.
Don’t forget the upcoming Drive America Performance Driving Experience on October 5 at Road America. It allows a chance to drive the track and see what you and your car can do in a relaxed atmosphere. This event is held to support the March of Dimes. For further information contact the March of Dimes at (414) 778-3500 or pick up a brochure at Concours Motors. As always call me, Chuck Kadonsky (414) 290-1445, for help with any Porsche needs.
